EXPERIENCED OPERATOR/LABOR

Reporting to the Public Works Director, this position will be responsible for performing a variety of work consisting of light and heavy manual maintenance functions related to public works, including streets, sewer, parks, cemetery, building maintenance and water systems; repairs/construction. Five years of equipment operating experience or water/sewer maintenance is greatly preferred.

Be able to regularly lift and move 50 pounds and occasionally move and lift 100 pounds, stand for long periods of time, regularly requires reaching with hands and arms, using hands and fingers to feel or operate objects tools or controls i.e., demonstrating gross and fine motor skills and eye hand coordination.

The successful candidate will be required to interact with the public in person, on the phone, as well as via fax and email. Strong communication skills are a positive attribute. The successful applicant will be required to proficiently operate equipment of all kinds including but not limited to: graders, backhoe,  roller, paver/paving, crack sealing, patching streets and sidewalks/gutters, frontend loader, dump truck, flatbed truck and trailer, ag tractors with a variety of attachments, skid steer/with a variety of attachments, bulldozer, Cozad transport, boom truck, a variety of lawn maintenance equipment, snow plow/sander, street sweeper, compactors, chipper, hot tap machines, connect water and sewer lines, read meters, repair utility lines, collect samples for sewer and water, and performs routine maintenance of pumps and pumping systems. The successful candidate should have a valid Nevada Drivers License or a Nevada Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class B or greater or the ability and willingness to obtain a CDL in 12 months of hire and must maintain a CDL through his/her tenure with the City of Carlin.

Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and possess substantial experience operating a variety of equipment proficiently, including but not limited to the proficient use of hand tools. The successful applicant will be required to work in a variety of conditions including but not limited to the following: heat, cold, rain, snow, dust, fumes, odors, or any combination of the weather-relate conditions.

This is a non-exempt position and the hourly starting wage is $14.50 to $29.75 depending on experience. Initial salary will be determined by the grade and step process plus an excellent benefits package. The Applicant with the highest qualifications as determined by the screening process will be invited to on or more interviews which may include written examinations, one or more oral presentation exercises, situational responses, or a combination of assessment exercises.
